3rd IEEE International Conference on Communication Technologies 2021 (ComTech-2021)

On the 21st and the 22nd of September 2021 “IEEE International Conference on Communication Technology (COMTECH 2021)” was held at MCS with great fanfare. Major General Asif Ghafoor graced the occasion as chief guest. There were more than 150 participants, physical and online, and 9 keynote speakers, 3 of whom were from foreign universities. The conference provided a very valuable platform for the exchange of information regarding the latest trends and research foci in communications research around the globe.

The conference attracted 155 high quality technical research submissions of which 27 were accepted and published. Of these 27 the papers titled “Smartphone Inertial Sensors for Human Locomotion Activity Recognition based on Template Matching and Codebook Generation”, by Usman Azmat and Ahmad Jalal, and “Microcontroller Based Intelligent Chinese-Speech Keywords Detector by Transferring the Mid-level Features of Deep Speech”, by Junaid Hussain Muzamal, Muhammad Asghar, and Anne Kwong, won the best paper awards.

A Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition was also held in the conference and had strong competition. The 3MT format allows for three minutes and one static PowerPoint slide to present their thesis. The competition is open to PhD scholars only. Juwairiyah Naeem from SMME, NUST won the competition with her thesis titled, “Use of Artificially Intelligent Swarm Robots for Disaster Management”, while the runner-up was Muhammad Abdullah Abid from MCS, NUST with her thesis titled, “Malware Detection and Classification in IOT Environment”.
