Dr. Ihtesham ul Islam is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Software Engineering, Military College of Signals -MCS, National University of Sciences and Technology-NUST, Pakistan. Dr. Ihtesham specializes in computer vision and AI research. He obtained his PhD in Computer & Control Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 2015, his MS in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Myongji University Korea in 2009, and his BS in Computer Engineering from UET Peshawar, Pakistan in 2006. With over 15 years of experience, he has taught a wide range of subjects including Digital Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Data Structures & Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Computer Logic Design, Computer Programming, Object-Oriented Programming, Microprocessor-based System design, Operating Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Signals & Systems, Machine Learning, Professional Practices, Software Design and Architecture, and Software Construction. His research interests include medical image and signal analysis, kinship recognition, face recognition, fingerprint recognition, multi-modal biometric recognition in the wild, crowd behavior modeling, and prediction analytics in healthcare. Dr. Ihtesham is actively involved in supervising research students, publishing impactful research papers, and participating in funded projects. He successfully completed the international project IBN@TEIN (worth 150K Euros) in 2023, focusing on AI applications in intelligent networks. This project was funded by Asi@Connect and involved collaboration with partners from Korea, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Pakistan. Currently, he serves as the principal investigator of AI-GDMP, an international research project (worth 13M PKR) granted by PHC Global Pakistan under its AI-SAROSH knowledge hub, funded by IDRC Canada. The project aims to improve maternal health with AI technologies.
