Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), being the premier professional body of engineers in Pakistan, is deeply involved in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of engineers in the country. As a part of this CPD, PEC frequently arranges different short courses for engineers which are aiming at; updating of knowledge, development & improvement in the state of the art professional skills, improvement in professional competency & exposure.
Communication is an important trait of humans and engineers, scientists and researchers are no exception to it. Technical writing, including thesis, journal and conference papers is the most effective way in which these professionals can inform others of their achievements.
This course is designed to familiarize the professionals to the state-of-the-art scientific writing software known as Latex to share their professional knowledge and research experiences in the respective fields through quality publications/thesis. Participants will get hands-on-experience on Latex in the State of the Art Communications Lab. The course contents will include:
- Getting started – the basics
- Types of a research paper
- Structure of a research paper
- Introduction of Latex
- Familiarization of syntax
- Installation of Latex
- Hands on practice using Latex
- Useful tips, tricks and advices
Certificate and CPD Points:
A certificate will be awarded to the participants.
As per the implemented Continuing Professional Development System by PEC, Credit points (1 CPD point) will be awarded to the Registered/Professional Engineers, who have attended the course and earned the certificate.
Objectives/ Deliverables (after attending the course one would be able to):-
Get familiar with the usage of latex software. Identify and conceptualize the essential steps required in writing a research paper/thesis using Latex. Participants would be able to produce a quality research paper worth publication in a quality international journal / proceedings of an international conference.

Dr. Muhammad Imran graduated from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan in 2007 in Information & Communication Systems Engineering. He received his Masters and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), Pakistan, in 2011 and 2014, respectively. In 2014, he joined Military College of Signals (MCS), NUST as an Assistant Professor. In 2020, he got promoted to Associate Professor. He is an active researcher and produced 68x ISI Indexed journals and many International Conference publications till date with overall Impact Factor of 150.
